| Ritual Sunlight Letter of Inquiry This site is dedicated to community and the possibilities it holds as a foundation for positive living within a complex set of circumstances, otherwise known as ‘Life in the 21st century’. This inquiry brings with it many challenging question for all of us. We are just now remembering what it is to live as a community rather than as an individual, a family or a nation. Given the political and social circumstances that we are faced with today, we are greatly challenged to transform our relationships to each other, to our environment and to our children as a means of creating sustainable communities. What would it be to design our lives in such a way as to be in support of the greater whole and its evolution as a living organism? And how to do this not based in the fear of what we may lose or the judgments laid upon us, but rather on a deep sense of trust and generosity? To what degree do we truly live in line with our values and our word? How much do we let slide when it comes to our commitments? We ask these questions not so much to find answers, but rather to offer ourselves an opportunity to expand our awareness and diminish our ignorance. So where do we begin? Actually, we’ve already begun because most of us have stepped into the inner journey of questioning our choices and healing the wounds we carry. It’s not about wanting to change the way anyone has decided to do this. We each find our path in different ways and it is of no use to judge how another finds their peace. In fact, in regards to community, it seems extremely important that we recognize our judgments and step beyond them to see rather what we share. And what do we share? Many things, but basically we share our humanness. Though this seems obvious, we often do not act or think in accordance to this underlying reality of human connectedness. The effort to fully embrace this understanding is what lies at the heart of a healthy, breathing community. Let us start here then and remember how to share. Before we go on, I would like to introduce myself, as you may or may not be wondering who is behind all of these words. My name is Gregory and I don’t find it so important for you to know who I am except that my intention here is to relate with people and I find the internet a fairly impersonal venue to do so. It is not easy to connect with anyone’s ‘humanness’ here and I’ve resisted using it as a way to share myself. But I’ve decided that the internet is in fact a quite effective way for people to connect, so once again I step into the unknown. I am an artist, musician and educator living in northern New Mexico where I live a fairly humble existence with my cat Manouche and my community of living artists, scientists, musicians, builders, elders and everything else. I’ve lived a rather solitary life but have always found friends as a central element in my pursuit of understanding and peace. I find friends, especially the gathering together of friends, one of the most important things we have. I’ve come to realize over the years of living in my community that I have a gift for bringing people together as well as a strong connection with children. With no children of my own I’ve had the chance to travel abroad and pursue friendships with many people, young and old alike. I’ve been able to explore what community means and how it can potentially contribute to the transformation of our relationships. I don’t pretend to know anything more or better than anyone else and all that I say here is simply an opening to conversation and discovery. I invite you, as a member of my greater human community, to participate. The two main avenues I’ve chosen to focus on in this exploration of community has been education, via arts and music projects with children, and weekly gatherings, via an underground café in my backyard. I’ve found these two paths the best way for me to express what it is I have to share with my community. You will find pages on this site that further explain these pursuits of my personal journey and how you can become involved if you so choose. I once again welcome you to this inquiry into who we are as artists, teachers, students and participants, roles we all share in, and how we can begin to use what we have learned within ourselves to help harmonize and heal our outer communities. I truly appreciate your interest and invite you to respond to anything you see here by writing to me at ritualsunlight@hotmail.com |
