RETURN

A BOLD REQUEST
by Namgyal Dolma

I stretched out my hand to pluck a new rose
For my sister’s birthday,
But a wonderful thing happened before I touched it.
Do you know what happened?
Well it would be better to tell you, my curious friend.
The strangest thing happened.
The flower glowed so brightly for a moment
Then the rose vanished out of sight.
My heart beat wildly,
The whole atmosphere changed,
I drew my hand away,
But just then a soft pleading voice called me back.
Yes, I can hear it!
“Please let us live and please don’t hurt us.” It said.
Wasn’t it really a strange thing?
It might be better if we called it a bold request
As it really was so bold.
Do you think, dear reader, it was a real voice?
If so, then let us respond.
